Nyau Tour DAY 1: Arrive into Kilimanjaro International Airport today off your International flight, or from a connecting flight out of Nairobi, Kenya. After clearing customs you will be met and transferred to Arusha Dinner and overnight at Arusha Hotel/Arumeru river lodge DAY 2: Safari to Sinya Nature Conservancy This morning after breakfast you will be met by your guide and depart by road to Sinya, a 138,000 acre private wildlife conservancy in a remote area in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro. It’s flood plains, hills, acacia woodland and spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, give life to one of the most beautiful, pristine, wild areas of Northern Tanzania. This is Maasai land, the arid land of Sinya, one of the few areas in Africa where huge bull elephants more than 50 years old, carrying tusks of considerable size, are regularly seen. Some of these bulls live permanently in the area and others migrate, together with herds of mothers and calves, from Amboseli National Park in Kenya to Sinya in search of water and food. Because of their familiarity with safari vehicles in Amboseli they let you approach them at very short distances, allowing for excellent photographic opportunities. Most of them have been monitored by Cynthia Moss in Amboseli for more than 25 years and form one of the healthiest and most balanced Elephant populations of on the continent. The Maasai in Sinya still live in the traditional way and follow all the traditional ceremonies. They are very friendly and unexposed to the commercial relationship with tourists that is common in other more visited areas. The land is leased from several local tribes, so your stay here helps preserve the area for the wildlife and generates funds for schools and other needs. You will have opportunities to be led on wildlife walks, visit the Maasai villages & market, and participate in ceremonies if the occasion arises. While at Sinya you’ll spend two nights at Kambi ya Tembo, a small luxury tented camp with exclusive use of the conservancy. Each of the 10 luxury thatch roofed tents has an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and solar powered hot shower and a private verandah. The dining room, bar and lounge are housed in a dramatic thatched roofed structure with a spectacular view of the conservancy. Activities while at Kambi ya Tembo include game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles, night game drives, bird watching and walking safaris escorted by Maasai trackers. Enjoy your first game drive this morning on the way in to camp. After lunch and some time to get acquainted with your surroundings, you’ll depart on a game drive, guided walk for boma visit, returning in time to freshen up before drinks around the camp fire and dinner. Spend your first night “in the bush” with the sounds of an African night in the background. Dinner and overnight at Kambi ya Tembo FB DAY 3: Safari to Sinya Nature Conservancy This morning after breakfast at sunrise, you will depart on a game drive in the conservancy. Early mornings, when the cloud cover lifts from the snow capped Mt. Kilimanjaro, the light is perfect for photographing the majestic mountain. You will also visit a local Maasai compound where you are allowed to take photos of the extended families and their way of life. Return to camp for lunch and some time to relax set out on another game drive, go for a walk escorted by Maasai trackers. If it happens to be a Tuesday, you can also visit the Maasai market where Maasai from miles around bring their cattle, goats, fabric and other items to sell or trade. Spend your final evening at Sinya with drinks around the camp fire, and dinner to celebrate the end of another memorable day. Dinner and overnight at Kambi ya Tembo FB DAY 4: Safari to Arusha National Park After breakfast you’ll leave Sinya and drive to Arusha National Park, one of the most picturesque small parks in Africa. Set between the slopes of Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro this small park is one of Tanzania’s hidden gems and one of the few places where you will have a good chance to see the rare Black & White Colobus monkeys, which inhabit the Ngurdoto Forest. The parks contains a series of shimmering alkaline lakes, which attract large flocks of flamingo’s and a variety of birds, along with elephant, buffalo, zebra, gazelle, wart hog, hippo and an amazing number of giraffe. The rare black rhino is also found here. One of the highlights of today’s game drive is a short walk to a viewing area overlooking the miniature Ngurdoto Crater, which is completely reserved for the animals, so no one is allowed to go down into it. From high above the tiny dots that appear on the crater floor are actually huge Buffalo, that feed in the marsh grasses. After stopping for a picnic lunch and more wildlife viewing you will leave the park and drive a short ways the Kigongoni Lodge. This beautiful small lodge is located on an historic 70-acre coffee farm near Arusha, amid natural forest. Set upon a hilltop with lush gardens, the lodge offers breathtaking views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru. Tucked between the trees are fourteen cottages, built in traditional African styles and materials. The rooms, cocktail lounge, and restaurant – all with fireplaces – are furnished in an intimate and comfortable manner, maximizing the site’s unique views and natural features. Relax with a sundowner and enjoy dinner and overnight at Arumeru river lodge DAY 5: Tarangire National Park This morning after breakfast you’ll depart by road to Tarangire National Park, Tanzania’s third largest. Here you’ll find a diverse geologic landscape, with nine distinct vegetation zones. Ancient Baobab trees dot the landscape dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. The Tarangire River that meanders through the park attracts an abundance of wildlife, from elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and numerous antelope to a variety of colorful birds. During the dry season thousands of elephants gather in the area. Your accommodations for the next two nights will be at the Tarangire River Camp, a luxury permanent tented camp set just outside the western border of the park on a 60,000 acre wildlife concession, set aside for conservation by the local Maasai community. The 18 large walk-in thatched roof tents are set on wood platforms on a high ridge overlooking the Tarangire River. The tents have showers, bathrooms and electricity, along with a private verandah overlooking the river. Mt meru, Ngorongoro, Oldonyo Lengai, and the Great Rift Valley can be seen from every corner of the Camp. Shaded by a giant Baobab tree the magnificent Tarangire River Camp’s main building is an elegant elevated thatch and timber structure comprising of a main lounge, wildlife reference library, dining and cocktail bar, with stunning views of the Maasai plains the forested area of the park. Activities include wildlife viewing within the concession and in the park, along with walking with Maasai guides and village visits. After lunch and some time to relax, depart on an afternoon game drive or walk. Return in time to freshen up and perhaps a drink around the camp fire before dinner and overnight at Tarangire River Camp/Maramboi Tented camp DAY 6: Lake Manyara National Park This morning, after an early breakfast, you’ll leave Tarangire and drive across the Great Rift Valley to Lake Manyara National Park. Although only 205 sq. miles in size this enchanting park is noted for its beauty and incredibly lush acacia forest of giant fig and mahogany trees, which are home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys. The park is also home to large numbers of buffalo, giraffe, elephant, hippo, impala and the Hippo Pool, where large numbers usually gather. Well known for its birds (over 400 species), Lake Manyara is one of the few places you will see the comical Ground Hornbill and the Crested Eagle. After spending several hours in the park, you’ll continue to the Ngorongoro Highlands, driving through small villages and passing small farms on your way to the beautiful Gibb’s Farm. Formerly a working coffee plantation, the farm is set high on the hillside with a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills. The cottages, set amongst the lush gardens, attract a wide variety of birds. Gibb’s is known for its fabulous food with most of it coming from their ten acre organic garden. After lunch, relax for the remainder of the day or take a walk to the nearby elephant caves. Dinner and overnight at Gibb’s Farm, Luxury Lodge FB DAY 7: Ngorongoro Crater This morning you will leave Gibb’s Farm and drive up through the crater highlands to the “eighth natural wonder of the world” – the Ngorongoro Crater. You will have your first view of the spectacular crater with a photo stop on the crater rim. With walls 2000 ft high and a crater floor that spreads for 102 sq. miles, the crater is a virtual “Noah’s Ark”, inhabited by almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa including the rare black rhino. It contains a river, several swamps, a soda lake – complete with flamingoes, a forest and open plains. The large bull elephants that reside here have extremely large tusk, due to the rich mineral content of the volcanic soil and it’s grasses. Descend down to the crater floor for a day of wildlife viewing. After a stop for a picnic lunch and more wildlife viewing, drive up the steep road and on to the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. The Ngorongoro Serena Lodge with it’s dramatic architecture is nestled into the side of the crater rim. After checking in, you will have some time to freshen up and get acquainted with the lodge before dinner in the exotic dining room. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge FB DAY 8:Serengeti National Park Today you’re off to the famous Serengeti National Park, home of the “great migration”. Your drive today is spectacular as you drive across the crater highlands. As you crest the hillside, spread out before you, as far as the eye can see, is the vast Serengeti. Serengeti means “endless plains” in Kiswahili and this 6,900 sq. mile (18,000 sq. km) park is inhabited by more than 2 million large animals including more than a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains zebras, and Thomson’s gazelles. Large predators including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas are drawn to the area by this abundance of prey which migrate throughout the park. Many smaller animals rock hyrax, bat eared foxes, mongoose, honey badger, jackals, monkeys, baboon and African hare inhabit the area along with nearly 500 species of birds. On the way into the Serengeti you will stop at the famous “Oldupai Gorge”, where Dr. Louis and Mary Leakey made their discovery of early man. After attending a short lecture describing the archeological digs and geology of the gorge, you’ll have time to visit the small museum before continuing to your camp where you’ll spend the next three nights under canvas. Your stay in the Serengeti will be at Simiyu. A luxury seasonal tented camp which is moved to take advantage of the movement of the migratory herds within Serengeti ecosystem. The camp has 8 large luxury tents – 2 with king-size beds and 6 with twin beds and each tent has an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet, sink and hot showers and 12v solar power for lighting. Delicious meals, are served under the stars or in the dining tent. The camp has Long Distance Radio which covers the entire East Africa region. There is also a Satellite Phone available. After enjoying lunch, you will depart on an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti. Return to the camp in time to freshen up and enjoy a sundowner around the campfire before dinner. Dinner and overnight at Caracal Luxury Camp FB DAY 9: Serengeti National Park During your stay in the Serengeti, you can decide with your guide how you would like to spend your days. On most mornings you’ll be awakened early and after coffee or tea depart on an early morning game drive in the amazing Serengeti. The early mornings are magical in the Serengeti, when the wildlife is just waking up to greet the days. After returning to camp for a hearty breakfast you can depart on a late morning game drive returning to camp for lunch or you may want to depart with a picnic lunch so that you can spend the whole day wildlife viewing. Off road, across the Serengeti plains, you’ll find “Kopjes” – massive boulder islands, standing in a sea of grass. The kopjes were formed by volcanic activity and provide shelter to a great variety of plants and animals, from the elusive leopard to the tiny dik dik. After a day’s activities you return to camp for sundowners around the fire and dinner and overnight at Caracal Luxury Camp FB DAY 10: Serengeti Arusha This morning after breakfast drive back to Arusha for overnight at the Arusha hotel/Mountain village Day 11.Morning at leisure lunch thereafter transfer to Kilimanjaro End of our service
