My concern does not arise primarily from the fact that his convoy was pelted by stones as reported by the media, but by the silence of the security forces. I am yet to read that any suspect, not even one person, has been arrested for the crime. We are talking about attacks on the most important life in our country. Yet neither the Police nor the DSS has informed us of the progress of their investigations; of course I assume there is an investigation. The fact that these attacks took place in states controlled by the Presidents party should make it easier to apprehend the culprits since there is no opposition state governor to be accused of shielding the perpetrators or hindering investigations. Take note that I do not think much of protesters pelting public officers with eggs, tomato or pure water sachets as a sign of their disenchantment, but any protest which is violent and with potential to do bodily harm should not only be condemned, but the perpetrators should be apprehended and punished according to the law. This is why I found it strange that our National Security Adviser travelled all the way to the Chattam House, London, to advise INEC to postpone the scheduled general elections not due to any security reason, but because many voters are yet to be issued their PCV. I should expect the NSA to be busy with the serious and urgent task of finding those who attacked our President rather than advising INEC on a matter totally outside his purview. Ordinarily, one would expect him to use the opportunity of his appearance at the Chattam House to highlight our plans to out the Boko Haram who have taken over parts of our territory and put Nigerians - civilians and soldiers - to the sword whenever it suits them. The last topic I expected the NSA to address was PVC. I have also heard news reports of certain youth groups in Bayelsa State threatening the First Lady, Mrs.Patience Jonathan, with disgrace and embarrassment if she dares attend the presidential campaign rally, scheduled to hold early February in Yenagoa, with her husband. They accuse her of sowing seeds of crisis in the state, and working against the interest of the state governor. I must confess I didnt take the news seriously until another news report this morning quoted the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police to have confirmed the threat and warned the faceless youth groups to desist from embarrassing the First lady. This is Bayelsa state we are talking about, and not Katsina or Sokoto. Perhaps this is an indication that cases of violence or threats of it are not strictly religious or ethnic based. The security agencies should do well to avoid unnecessary distractions and embroiling themselves in needless controversies and rise up to the challenges of ensuring a violence - free campaign and election. That is their charge and that is my minimum expectation. Petras comment: May God bless you, Nze. Kai! Why isnt it possible to do a partial brain transplant na? Shebi you for gimme small from your brains? People are even beginning to suspect that it was orchestrated! Was it not Katsina State governor, Shema the Roach, who asked his supporters to crush opposition like cockroaches? Security operatives, do your work ooo. People have been injured in Rivers and I hear two persons killed in Ekiti. Let those who should do their jobs, do so. Let them do it well too.
