O God, Our world is filled with hatred and evil. We look around and listen to the worlds rhetoric and hear nothing but accusatory words, voices crying out for division rather than unity. We argue over who is right rather than caring for the poor, the widows and the orphans. We let children go hungry and others lose their homes. Is this the best we can do? Is this all there is for us? Lord you give us the power to choose. So today we choose you over all other things. We choose to listen to your voice over the noisy voices of our world. We choose not to blame but accept your call to be responsible for our neighbors: to clothe the naked, feed the hungry, pray for those in authority and to build your kingdom here in our communities. So may the hungry be satisfied, the naked clothed, the widows and orphans be cared for. Let your voice be heard in every followers hearts that we may bring the message the kingdom is near. May it be brought near through our actions. We choose you, Lord Jesus, to lead us through this day. To offer you thanks and praise through the way we respond to the needs of others. Grant us your presence to strengthen us in our weakness, give courage to our hearts and peace to our souls as we reach beyond ourselves to minister to others in your name. Amen.
