O-H-I-O by The Ohio Players as the official State Funk/R&B Song - TopicsExpress

O-H-I-O by The Ohio Players as the official State Funk/R&B Song for the state of Ohio and to have Ohio declared The Funk Capital Of the World. The Ohio Players, known for such classic hits as Fire, Love Rollercoaster and Skin Tight wrote and produced the song O-H-I-O with love, pride and respect for their home state. The musical genre known as Funk began in Cincinnati when The Godfather Of Soul signed with King Records in the 50s. Bassist William Bootsy Collins and brother Phelps Catfish Collins played in James Browns band, and later went on to fame with Parliament/Funkadelic, which also features Clevelands own Michael Kidd Funkadelic Hampton. Other funk groups such as The Isley Brothers, Midnight Star, Roger Troutman, Heatwave, Wild Cherry, The Dazz Band, Devo, Slave, Zapp, Lakeside and Sweet Thunder all hail from the Buckeye state. The influence and sound of these groups helped define funk music of the 70s and 80s as well as the G-Funk or West Coast Sound in the Rap/Hip-Hop genre of the 90s. This genre known as Funk is an undeniable expression of feeling and groove that infuses various other genres of music including jazz, bebop, blues, rock and R&B. Funk also stood at the forefront of both social commentary and protest. It is music that is from the heart. This movement needs your support. Our goal here at OhioWeFunk is to pass a state resolution through the Ohio General Assembly to officially recognize Ohios contribution to music worldwide. Ohio was once declared The Heart of it All and rightfully deserves this honor. Please click the like button on this page and pass this page along to your families and friends! Our goal is to have the state resolution pass in the General Assembly by 2012, with a declaration ceremony to take place at The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland. We humbly quote from Funkadelics hit One Nation Under The Groove, we gettin down just for the Funk of it! We thank you all for your support. youtube/watch?v=8bUoSgBukwM
