† O:) Remembering - May 13: 1961 – Gary Cooper, American actor and singer (b. 1901) Gary Cooper (born Frank James Cooper; May 7, 1901 – May 13, 1961) was an American film actor. Noted for his stoic, understated style, Cooper found success in a number of film genres, including westerns (High Noon), crime (City Streets), comedy (Mr. Deeds Goes to Town) and drama (The Pride of the Yankees). Coopers career spanned from 1925 until shortly before his death, and comprised more than one hundred films. On April 14, 1960, Cooper underwent surgery for prostate cancer after it had metastasized to his colon. He fell ill again on May 31 and underwent further surgery in early June. However, the cancer had already begun to spread to his lungs and bones. Cooper, however, was not informed his cancer was terminal until February 1961. Typically, the actor telephoned the doctor the very next day to apologize for the ordeal of having to tell him the fatal news. May 13, 1961, six days after his 60th birthday, Cooper died. In his last public statement, Cooper said, I know that what is happening is Gods will. I am not afraid of the future...................... 1972 – Dan Blocker, American actor (b. 1928) Dan Blocker (December 10, 1928 – May 13, 1972) was an American television actor and Korean War veteran. He is best remembered for his role as Eric Hoss Cartwright in the NBC western television series Bonanza. On May 13, 1972, Blocker died in Los Angeles of a pulmonary embolism following gall bladder surgery. Dunn was notable for his 1960s recordings with Booker T. & the M.G.s and as a session bassist for Stax Records. At Stax, Dunn played on thousands of records including hits by Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas, William Bell, Eddie Floyd, Johnnie Taylor, Albert King, Elvis Presley and many others. In 1992, he was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Brothers died, aged 85, at her home in Fort Lee on May 13, 2013 due to respiratory failure. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Brothers Arbisser, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a sister.She called herself the mother of television psychology.
