O.U.R Ecovillage is hosting two amazing events all on the same weekend. Youth and Community Convergence, which is a groundswell of vibrant youth dialogue, hands-on learning activities, expressive arts, campfire circles, workshops, a dance party, and more. While participation is generally limited to those 13–30, other community members are invited to co-create workshops and events within the Convergence. The whole group will participate in Mark’s event on September 28. As well as Community Place Making with Mark Lakeman, Imagine an intersection where people stop to chat and interact, cars, bikes, pedestrians and other road users share space respectfully, and the intersection itself is adorned with bold, beautiful artwork. Perhaps a pop up café is near by, or a planting of community fruit and nut trees. Like a park within a crossing or a social zone around a traffic circle, a new type of intersection is popping up across North America. Many of them are thanks in large part to the work of designer, eco architect, and visionary Mark Lakeman, principal designer at Communitecture and spearheading force behind City Repair, a non-profit founded in Portland nearly 20 years ago.
