O mai Mercx, Im so excited over this post, which has been blessed by its raison dêtre, Alex Figueiredo: Its time to nickname a member. First, for the recreational users of cycling (contrast that with me and a few others, who are full-blown addicts), meet Fabian Cancellara, one of the greatest cyclists of all time. His nickname is Spartacus. This guy is not only a great cyclist, especially in the one-day Classics, but hes also had a long career free of drama, scandal and other negatives. Now, about Alex Figueiredo. Like Spartacus, Alex has donkey strength and also like Spartacus, Alex is a super-nice person, who quietly does a lot to help out the club, especially with his in-ride leadership and calm demeanor (he told me to Relaaaaaaax last week during the 20+ ride, and he was right, I needed to chill TFO). Alex also happens to be a huge fan of Spartacus, and of Trek Bicycles, Spartacuss sponsor. Alexs faith in Treks comfort, smoothness and reliability is so strong that he recommended his wife give birth to their second child while riding a Trek. Their second child is five-ish, and Karen just resumed talking to Alex last year, so kids, dont try this trick at home. Now that weve gotten the introductions out of the way, should Alex be re-christened: 1) Baby Fab (TM); or 2) Baby Spartacus (TM). Chime in with comments.
