OATMEAL COOKIES I just got through making a batch of no bake oatmeal cookies. They are delicious, I cant wait to eat them. I have made this recipe before, and they turned out great! I was reading some of the comments from several cooks who have tried this recipe and found one I thought was very interesting. She said that she was trying to make a healthier version. This cook had substituted soy for the milk, honey for the sugar and a butter substitute for the butter. She was asking if anyone could explain why they did not harden but remained mush. The obvious answer, of course, is that she did not follow the recipe. If she wanted to make this recipe, she needed to use the ingredients listed and do the things called for. However, the fact that the recipe called for certain ingredients did not preclude the use of others. There are several recipes for no bake oatmeal cookies online that use different ingredients that Im sure have just as good a result. But this recipe has been tested and proven to work in the way it says it does. Many will take the same attitude toward Salvation. Many will take Gods plan and try to change it to suit themselves. They try to make a healthier version, of salvation, if you will. They will leave out certain requirements God has included and add things God never added. For example, many will look to John 3:16 and say that salvation consists of belief only. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. Now I agree that this verse of scripture tells us that faith is necessary for salvation. But those who teach this doctrine pull this verse out of context and ignore the fact that earlier in this same speech Christ himself says that salvation consists of a birth by water and the Spirit. Later in this same speech, Jesus says that salvation involves obedience. John 3:21 But he that doeth the truth cometh to the light, that his works may be made manifest, that they have been wrought in God. The fact that God said the recipe for salvation includes faith in one verse does not mean that there are no other requirements. In fact, God has said that we must accept the teachings of all the scriptures to be saved. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness. That the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work. We simply cannot take a part of the recipe of God and change it to suit us and expect to achieve the same results as Gods recipe. This includes the adding to or taking away from it. Revelation 22:18-19 I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto them, God shall add unto him the plagues which are written in this book: and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the tree of life, and out of the holy city, which are written in this book. In the recipe I used for the oatmeal cookies, it did not say do not use soy milk or honey or butter substitute - it simply said to use milk, butter and sugar. To take out the ingredients called for and to substitute others resulted in a mess for the cook mentioned above. To take Gods recipe for salvation and remove some requirements and substitute others will be disastrous. 1 Peter 4:11 if any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God; is any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
