OBA: SENATE, LEADERSHIP AND THE PEOPLE AMOS ETUK Friday, January 16, 2015 the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State kick started campaigns for a resounding victory at the polls in next month’s general elections as they presented party flags to all her candidates vying for different offices in the general elections taking place next month. It was a moment in history witnessed by millions of party faithful who thronged the Uyo Stadium to identify with the success story of the party in the state so far led by the ever dynamic leader, His Excellency, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio ( CON), the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State whose sterling and exciting leadership over the years has put the State on the global spotlight of excellence. The historic ceremony which has further united the party as the campaign train canvasses votes across the thirty one local government areas of the state in preparation for another landslide victory at the polls has raised the bar for a choice to be made by the people of the state who have overwhelmingly accepted the choice of new leadership in the emerging political dispensation. For the great people of Uyo Senatorial District, it was a day to cherish, a day of thanksgiving, a day manifested to bring new hope, greater change for the people as the presentation of the mandate to the standard bearer of the party in the Senatorial District, Obong Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) as the journey to the Red Chambers of the Senate began that memorable day. The clarion call for OBA to serve his people represents the new dynamics of change which the world continues to clamour as his entry into the Senatorial race offers a new dawn of leadership in the area, offers a stronger and life touching effective representation on his people as a new chapter opens in building a stronger relationship for Uyo Senatorial District. OBA comes with a tremendous and intimidating wealth of experience, proven, tested and trusted into this office as his stellar performances in the private and public sectors are well known to the electorate and this has been widely embraced by the people of Uyo Senatorial District as the new voice of hope, the new voice of change and a representative who is genuinely committed to enhancing the lives of his people positively. The eruption of joy which echoed around the Uyo Stadium that fateful Friday during the flag presentation of the Peoples Democratic Party has once again shown that the best choice was made even as his acceptance spans across the three senatorial districts as a leader that represents the people of Akwa Ibom State. OBA represents a generation of new and young leaders going to the National Assembly to offer quality contributions in nation building that would usher effective legislation to support the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in his second term in office. All through his consultations with his people so far, he has led by example as a team player on the home front as an integral member of the Dream Team Of AkwaIbom State in the present administration and the incoming administration of Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel who looks set to succeed Governor Akpabio . OBA has consistently preached unity and love for his dear state at every opportunity given to him on his campaign trail and has consistently shown courage in breaking new grounds for the development of Akwa Ibom State. His commitment to serve the people of Uyo senatorial District at the National Assembly from June 2015 when the Eighth Assembly begins is enough reason why his victory at the polls on Saturday, February 14, 2015 should be a landslide as he represents a strong quality of a great leader on the wings of a new history. OBA’s representation of Uyo Senatorial District at the Senate encompasses an area that has produced prominent citizens including past State Military Administrators, past National Assembly members, political chieftains including the incumbent State Chairman of the ruling PDP who has described him as brother that is set to make the Senatorial District and Akwa Ibom state proud. One of the cardinal programmes OBA has always re-stated he will offer at the Senate is a stronger empowerment for his people which matters most at this crucial period of our economy and as a great philanthropist who has touched the lives of so many people even beyond ethnic barriers beyond the state, these are indeed happy times once again for Uyo Senatorial District. OBA’s commitment that his tenure in the Senate would witness the establishment of a Youth empowerment and development centre for the training of our teeming youths in various fields of endeavour is commendable as it reassures our youths that there is a brighter ray of hope that the change for the better will manifest with the Peoples Senator. His tenure promises to be impactful, a tenure focused more on the empowerment of his people in enhancing their lives, a tenure that would be sustained on trust of a sacred mandate, a tenure ordained by God for effective leadership and a tenure whom our elders, women and the youths have expressed confidence in the representation of this man of history who is set to take Uyo Senatorial District to Nigeria. In making our choice of votes at the general elections in the next few weeks, the people of Uyo Senatorial District have a made a wise decision in recognising OBA as their choice and the Peoples Democratic Party as the platform on which this change of baton and history will be made. The choice has been unanimous because of his consistent good works and strong connection with the people at all levels. He represents that hope where the grassroots have seen in him as a torch bearer that will emancipate them, that hope where the elders have given him their nod, wise counsel and blessings to walk and conquer and that hope where his generation and the younger ones have come to see in him as the new face of a leader, a bridge builder that would foster national unity. Only recently, the Uyo Senatorial District Councillors Forum a body which covers all nine local government of the Senatorial District endorsed his candidature at the polls describing him as a man of honour and a leader whose time has come to lead his people to the Promised Land. The event, which was well attended as all Councillors from Uyo Senatorial District were present, remains a milestone as they are the closest to the grassroots and the endorsement of OBA as the choice of the forum kick starts the massive mobilisation and endorsements at that level even as he begins his campaigns across the Senatorial District. That meeting with all the Councillors from Uyo Senatorial District shows the understanding and respect that OBA has laid as a strong political foundation that would make his tenure outstanding as the reach to the grassroots continues to win more votes for him at the elections. Also, foremost groups in the Senatorial District have been mobilising support for OBA at the polls as part of their contributions to his victory. One of the hundreds of groups mobilising support for OBA towards the election is the Iman Ibom Good Governance Initiative whose landmark One Million Man March on Saturday, January 17, 2015 along major streets of Etinan Local Government attracted massive support towards the success of this project. The group comprising members from all the wards in Etinan and led by Engr. David Okon Willie described OBA as a perfect role model and team player whose pivotal role in the success story of the Uncommon Transformation of the present administration remains legendary and that the people of Etinan are proud to have him as their representative at the National Assembly in the next democratic dispensation. Similar mobilisation programmes that will create awareness for OBA’s victory and massive endorsements from prominent stakeholders of the party and across have continued to pour in towards his success at the polls. For OBA, his good works have continued to speak for him as the bond with his people continues to glow each new day and he stands tall on the political terrain of Uyo Senatorial District and Akwa Ibom State at large as a legislator whose aura and intellectual depth will deepen our democracy. In casting our votes on February 14, 2015, the choice for the Senate for Uyo Senatorial District remains one path which majority of the electorate will follow, that one path where the renaissance begins for the people, that one path where the wishes of the people will once again prevail, that one path where history will be made, that one path that holds a symbolic change for effective representation, that one path that would focus on our leader where hope prevails, that one path that would usher Obong Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) as the Senator- Elect for Uyo Senatorial District and the platform , the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP). We can make history as partners on this course because it is possible and our votes will surely count, but in making history that milestone day, we must be emphatic, focused and above all, pray for another divine victory as we look forward in welcoming OBA to the Senate with a record breaking landslide victory. That would be the path this victory will follow and the people will finally have their wishes fulfilled. Surely God’s goodness shall be upon our worthy son, man of history, man of faith, the chosen one. We believe it is possible. God bless the emerging Senator.
