OBJ IS STONE HEARTED. ACN chieftain flays Obasanjo for not condoling with Tinubu over mother’s death Posted on Thursday, July 4th, 2013 By Temidayo Akinsuyi Correspondent, Lagos A chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Ayo Akande, has flayed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for failing to condole with National Leader of the ACN, Bola Tinubu, over the death of his mother, Alhaja Abibat Mogaji. Speaking to reporters in Lagos on Tuesday, Akande said though it is public knowledge that the late Mogaji did not work with Obasanjo during his tenure both as military head of state and civilian president, courtesy demands that he (Obasanjo) as an elder statesman should send his condolence as a mark of respect for the dead. While praying for the repose of the soul of the late ‘Iyaloja’ of Lagos, whom he described as a courageous woman, Akande said the Federal Government must take steps to immortalise her for her worthy contribution to commerce in Nigeria. “Talking generally about Alhaja Mogaji, we can describe her as the mother of Nigeria. If she were to be a Christian, they would have been carrying her body all over the country. “But it is good to pray for her just as we have today. She was a great leader, a great politician of our time who really emancipated a mass movement of women into politics. “And she was a link between politics and women in commerce. The one that was really worthy of note is the fact that she was not controversial. “She worked with the military as well as the civilians, including Babangida. But what really is surprising is the fact that she never worked with former President Obasanjo either as a military head of state or civilian president.” Akande said the fact that Obasanjo did not send in a condolence message on the death of the Iyaloja “worries me a bit.” “The Yoruba have a proverb that ‘even if we are quarrelling, it should not get to the point of death’. “It would have been a mark of maturity if Obasanjo had sent a condolence to the family of Mogaji over the death of their matriarch and a national figure,” he added.
