OBSERVATIONS FROM NORMAN: #1 - The Oklahoma fans are the most hospitable of any away game I have to. Would go out of their way to tap you on the shoulder and welcome you to Norman and ask if we had questions about where to go and what to do. Cant wait to return the favor for their gameday experience in Knoxville next year. #2 - The Sooner Swirl at The Mont with a green Chile burrito was worth the hype. Really awesome campus hole in the wall built in an old church from 1920. Had all the OK season results written on the walls since their opening. Great patio. Really cool place and atmosphere for game day. #3 - Campus Corner was rowdy and awesome before the game. Their version of The Strip. But the streets were closed, it was open container, and food and beer vendors lined the streets. Lots of TVs for the games everywhere and a great environment. #4 - Beautiful campus and great tailgate set ups. The converted school bus was my fav (pics to come). The tailgating areas were courtyards not parking lots. Similar to The Grove at Ole Miss or The Quad at Bama. #5 - Vol Walk > Sooner Walk. Not near as cool and all music canned. Their band also just walks into the stadium. No parade or pageantry. This was lacking. #6 - Sooner Fan Fest is what Volunteer Village wants to be. Giant TV trucks with games. Live bands. Games. Great event for the fans. #7 - The stadium layout is great. WIDE concourses. Short concession lines. OU is brilliant in how they layout the away fans too. By spreading us out we couldnt get together to make much noise. By design the away fans were taken completely out of the game. #8 - The stadium was half as loud as Neyland. And that is being nice. Was not close to SEC loud. Noise was not a factor tonight. if it was, then we are in trouble in Athens. #9 - We needed a pep band desperately. With the layout of the away fans we needed the band to help unify cheers and get the fans into it. The band at an away game is a really loud cheerleader. We needed it. #10 - Oklahomas band was awful. Not loud; super small; and unbearably boring. Pregame was as bad as Vandy. And halftime was miserable. The athletic department didnt help either with the un game entertainment... #11 - be thankful for how UTs AD works with the band for a true college game experience. In Norman it was all forced and canned. Not like the SEC. They are in for a treat to see Neyland next year.
