OBSERVATORY FIRE PUMP REPAIR - MWOs first line of defense against fire is the pump system that provides pressurized water to a number of fire boxes around the grounds. This pump has had a leak for some time, and, with the current pressing water shortage on the mountain due to the SoCal drought, it was clear that we couldnt delay the repair any longer. So, on 1 Oct, the pump was removed and taken off the mountain for a seal replacement by a certified fire system repair company. For several hours, the mountain would have been without a fire-fighting capability had it not been for on-site protection provided during the pump outage by a Los Angeles County Fire Department crew with a water supply provided by Ahern Rentals. We are very grateful to the LACoFD and to Ahern Rentals for their support during this critical repair.
