OC athletic website is down, so here is a story on former OC golfer Oscar Stark leading the Oklahoma Open: Former OC golfer Stark leads Oklahoma Open; Johnston, Bogstrand in contention EDMOND, Okla. (Aug. 24, 2013) – Former Oklahoma Christian golfer Oscar Stark held the lead Saturday after the second round of the Oklahoma Open at Oak Tree Country Club’s East Course. Stark, who finished his OC career in 2011, shot a 6-under-par 64 to give him a two-round total of 9-under 131, one shot ahead of a pair of amateur players, University of Tulsa senior Matt Mabrey and Norman North High School junior Thomas Johnson of Norman. Two other players with OC ties are in contention at the tournament, the most prestigious golf event in Oklahoma. OC sophomore Sam Johnston shot a 67 and is tied for sixth at 5-under 135, while Vilhelm Bogstrand – who just completed his senior season with the Eagles – fired a second straight 68 and is tied for 13th at 4-under 136. The tournament’s final round will be played Sunday. On a sizzling Saturday afternoon, Stark – who started his round on No. 10 – was 1-under for the round and 4-under for the tournament when he eagled the 562-yard par-5 No. 12. Four holes later, he recorded a second eagle on the 470-yard par-4 No. 16 to get to 8-under. A birdie on the par-4 No. 2 put him at 9-under. Stark didn’t record a bogey after posting three in the first round. Stark took medalist honors at the 2011 NAIA Championship, leading OC to the team title. He was a four-time NAIA All-America selection, making the first-team list three times, and won both the Jack Nicklaus Award and Arnold Palmer Award in 2011. Johnston, an NCAA Division II second-team All-America pick as a freshman, also posted a bogey-free round. Bogstrand, who recorded his first pro win earlier this summer, overcame two bogeys with a birdie on No. 18 and another on No. 3. Four other golfers with OC ties didn’t make the cut, which was at even-par 140 – current junior Trey Payne (146), former standout Rhein Gibson (146), newcomer Jackson Stuteville (151) and senior Taylor Williams (154)
