OCR (Oracle Cluster Registry) - This is an ASM diskgroup (one or more ASM DISKS) that needs to be provided when installing GRID in 11g and Clusterware in 10g. Oracle stores its RAC resources or otherwise called as Cluster metadata. Lets say you have a database, 2 instance, 2 local listeners, 3 scan listeners, ASM diskgroups etc., in a RAC environment. These are called as Cluster resources. All these resources are maintained within OCR for oracle cluster to manage RAC. When you startup your RAC, oracle clusterware will read OCR to start the cluster resources.
