OCT 27-This Day in Entertainment & Music History: 1960-After leaving the legendary Drifters, Ben E. King made his first solo recordings, including the now classic Stand By Me...1966-The Monkees, whose new TV show was a smash in the ratings, received word they had achieved Gold Record status for both their hit single Last Train To Clarksville and for their debut self-titled album, The Monkees...1973-Aerosmith was the opening act for a show at Bostons Orpheum theater. The headliners were Mott The Hoople...1973-Gladys Knight and the Pips started a two week run at No.1 with Midnight Train To Georgia. It was the groups 18th top forty hit, but first to reach No.1. A bit of trivia surrounding this song: When songwriter Jim Weatherly first composed it, the original title was Midnight Plane to Houston. Weatherly was also the composer of two other mega-hits for Gladys Knight, Youre the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me, and Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)...1975-Bruce Springsteen was on the cover of both Time and Newsweek magazines. Although at the time he had yet to have a major hit album or single, Springsteen was being hailed as the most important rock artist of that era... Celebrity Birthday: Kelly Osoburne, daughter of Ozzy, is 30 today. A while back, mainstream America got to know Kelly as she did very well on Dancing With The Stars. But, you may be surprised to know that Kelly has had two big hit songs in her native England. In 2002, her cover of Madonnas Papa Dont Preach reached No.3.
