OCT 9-This Day in Beatles History: John Lennon was born in Liverpool, England. It was Lennon who founded the band originally known as the Quarrymen in the late 50s. Lennon eventually invited Paul McCartney and George Harrison to join the band. In 1962, drummer Ringo Starr was added to complete the lineup. Lennon led the Beatles to international fame, and after the band split in early 1970, he enjoyed a successful solo career before being shot and killed on December 8th, 1980. John Lennon would have celebrated his 74nd birthday today...1965-Yesterday, written by Paul McCartney, topped the singles chart for the first of 4 straight weeks. This hit gave the Beatles their 10th No.1 song in America. Strangely, Yesterday was not released as a single in England during the time the Beatles were still together...1966-John Lennon met Yoko Ono for the first time at an art Gallery in Londons West End.
