OF ISLAM, CHRISTIANITY AND KILLING PEOPLE By Mzati Nkolokosa · There is increasing negative feeling against Islam and Muslims because of killings in the name of Allah. But here are two points: One, Christianity has ever killed in the name of God. Pope John Paul II was courageous enough to offer the world an apology on 8 March, 2000, for “torture and killing of people branded as heretics... burned alive as Witches in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance.” Two, some of those, perhaps most of those, killing now may or may not necessarily represent Islam. The Popes apology also that it was individuals and not the church that committed crimes. Some historians have suggested that we, Christians, have killed more people than all wars in world history combined—all in the name of God. Let us remember that both the Bible and the Quran are like jungles, you can find in them what you want and justify your action, kind or cruel. The challenge is that Boko Haram, and other groups, are killing in the age of ICT and we all see the evils they do. And the reaction of some Christians suggests that they can kill to revenge on behalf of God.
