OFFICER INVOLVED IN SHOOTING DISMISSED FROM FORCE Posted by SiteJudge on May 31st, 2014 // Comments off By Jeff Tolle By a vote of 3 to 1 the Bourbon Board of Aldermen decided to terminate the employment of Police Officer Carl Storm “due to severe financial constraints”. Effective immediately, this action was taken at a special closed session of the City Council on Tuesday, May 27th. Officer Storm was the policeman involved in the fatal shooting of Gary Wenzel on March 5th after a lengthy police chase through three counties that ended when Wenzel crashed his vehicle just a few miles north of the City of Bourbon. Less than a week later the shooting was determined to be justified by a Crawford County Coroner’s Jury. Alderman J. Stanley Bell made the original motion to dismiss Storm, and was seconded by Alderman John Doherty. Voting to approve the dismissal were Bell, Doherty, and Alderman Danny Skaggs. Alderman Brian Riechers voted against the dismissal. Further details on this vote and more information from this Council Meeting will be published in the June 4th. edition of the Sullivan Independent News.
