OFFICIAL PARKS CANADA ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE The Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy #1) is now open in both directions between Golden and Banff to private passenger vehicles and tour buses ONLY. No commercial vehicles (semi, 18-wheelers, transport trucks) except those making deliveries to the communities of Field, Lake Louise, Banff and commercial accommodations (hotels, hostels, bed & breakfasts, restaurants, etc) are allowed at this time. *** IMPORTANT - The Trans-Canada Highway eastbound from Banff remains closed until further notice. *** Motorist can only get to Banff at this time. There is not estimated time of when motorist will be able to proceed east of the Town of Banff. Parks Canada and the Town of Banff are working on a contingency plan to allow limited traffic between Banff and Canmore. More information on this plan will be provided as soon at it becomes available. Motorists are encouraged to consult the DriveBC website drivebc.ca/ for road conditions west and south of Golden. Parks Canada is making every effort to reestablish regular traffic flow. However, due to the continued rainfall, not estimated time of reopening for the below listed roads is not available. A number of highways in the mountain national parks remained closed due to heavy precipitation causing flooding and mudslides. Trans-Canada Highway—both directions at Carrot Creek, located just inside the Banff East Gate. Engineers are assessing bridge safety. Highway 93S—the Banff-Radium Highway—from Castle Junction to Radium. Highway 93N (the Icefields Parkway)—from Lake Louise to Saskatchewan Crossing. Highway 1A (Bow valley Parkway)— in its entirety from Banff to Lake Louise Given persistent rain, there is no estimated time of road reopening at any of the aforementioned locations. Updates on the situation will be provided every two-to-three hours, or sooner if conditions change. For up-to-date road conditions in the Banff area, please visit 511.alberta.ca/ab/en.html.
