OFFICIAL STATEMENT/PRESS RELEASE FROM AGM OF CORK AND DISTRICT PIKE ANGLERS 8/4/14 Cork & District Pike anglers Association wishes to announce that following a unanimous vote by its members, it will not be renewing its subscription to SISSTRA (Salmon and Seatrout Recreational Anglers of Ireland) SISSTRA, in a letter to all members of the Oireachtas, signed by its Secretary Mr. Bob Seward, claimed its members were in favour of a Statutory Angling Contribution Scheme. Although our club was affiliated to that organisation, we were never contacted to ascertain our position before such an outrageous claim was made on our behalf. Subsequently, several other SISSTRA affiliated clubs, including Carragh Bridge Angling Club, Lombardstown and Roskeen Salmon Anglers Association, and Mallow Blackwater Salmon Anglers association, to name but a few, have also stated publicly that they had no contact whatsoever from SISSTRA before those claims were made, and furthermore, like ourselves, they too would vigorously oppose the introduction of such a charge, along with all the other anti-angler proposed new measures, ie the National Angler Register, Angler ID cards, the Penalty Point system, Title Research, Boat registration, etc etc Our members believe the primary responsibility of any body, group or federation should be to promote, uphold, and fight for if necessary, the views and opinions of its members. Clearly, this is not the case with SISSTRA. They have blatantly misrepresented their members, and therefore no longer have any credibility. Our Secretary has been instructed to write to SISSTRA to express our dissatisfaction with their actions, and to inform them of our decision to withdraw. ITS GREAT TO SEE ANOTHER CLUB WHICH WAS SISSTRA AND ACI AFFILIATED GO PUBLIC AND PROVE YET AGAIN HOW SISSTRA AND ACI LIED IN THEIR LETTER TO ALL THE DAIL DEPUTIES ON BEHALF OF ITS MEMBERS SEEKING SUPPORT TO PUSH THROUGH THIS ANTI ANGLER PROPOSAL.
