OFFICIAL STATEMENT RE: AB Board of Majors’ (11-21-14) statement on the issue of the lost fund (NOVEMBER 22, 2014) This statement is to affirm that the Faculty of Arts and Letters Student Council (ABSC) lost approximately Php 50,000 which includes the council’s cash on-hand and allocated budget for the Athena Cup 2014, AB NGO Fair, and Staff General Assembly last October 23, 2014 (Thursday) between 12:47-1:18 PM. Subsequently, upon the discovery of the loss, the ABSC Treasurer and President reported the incident to the Security Office and requested for the CCTV footage. The Security Office assured the ABSC that the footage (surveillance cameras located at the left wing of the St. Raymund’s Building near the ABSC office) shall be made available by October 28, 2014 (Tuesday) between 1:00-4:00 PM for reviewing and to be considered as one of the pieces of evidence to be presented to the SWDB. ABSC called for a closed door meeting last October 25, 2014 (Saturday) to address the issue of the lost funds. The students present during the incident, including Marie Jann Klaire Lazo (ABSC President), Julienne Avila (Treasurer), Emmanuel Arre (ABSC Chief-of-Staff), Patricia Umali (Board Committee Member to the Secretary), Jancis Valera (Board Committee Member to the Treasurer), and Richard Umali (Board Committee Member to the PRO), were asked to write an incident report regarding the issue. The incident reports were submitted to the Faculty’s Students’ Welfare and Development Board (SWDB) Coordinator Asst. Dean Narcissa N. Tabirara and copies were furnished for Dean Michael Anthony C. Vasco PhD on October 29, 2014. On October 27, 2014, Monday, the ABSC raised the concern to the council’s adviser and co-adviser/Faculty Secretary Assoc Prof. Lino N. Baron and Asst. Prof. Ma. Zenia M. Rodriguez ,respectively. After the 5 day break (October 30- November 3), the ABSC called for a follow up meeting on November 4, 2014, Tuesday, and agreed upon the precautionary measures in which only the council officers are allowed to stay inside the office and all transactions should be done through the business window. On the same meeting, the ABSC agreed to follow the council adviser’s suggestion of having a period of one (1) week to give the last chance for the culprit to submit his/herself with own volition to the Faculty’s investigation. Throughout the week, (November 4- 8, 2014), the ABSC prepared the necessary documents to be presented to the AB Board of Majors for transparency and accountability. On November 11, 2014, Tuesday, ABSC called for a joint meeting to inform the AB Board of Majors of the incident and the measures undertaken to resolve the issue and to show that the ABSC is taking full responsibility of the said unwanted event. In line with this, the ABSC was informed by the SWDB Coordinator that a hearing will be conducted during the semestral break in order to uphold due process. The ABSC stays firm in its thrust in upholding transparency and accountability at all costs to the extent that we, as representatives of the student body are willing to take full responsibility which is entailed by the decision of the SWDB, Board of Majors, and as mandated by the constitution. In pursuit of truth, justice, and genuine service to the student body of the Faculty of Arts and Letters, the ABSC is releasing this statement in good faith. Yours in Thomasian Leadership, ABSC EXECUTIVE BOARD 2014-2015
