OFI is celebrating Orangutan Awareness Week During this first week of November because Dr. Galdikas and Orangutan Foundation International originally chose the first week of November when we instituted Orangutan Awareness Week back in 1996 to honor the establishment of Camp Leakey the first week of November in 1971. OFI takes great pride in how the tradition has grown and is thrilled with how many organizations participate in Orangutan Awareness (or Caring) Week! We know many organizations are celebrating the second week of November, which just means that there will be people celebrating and bringing awareness for two weeks instead of just one :)
