OGUN STATE EDUCATION SECTOR: THE WORST SECTOR UNDER SENATOR - TopicsExpress

OGUN STATE EDUCATION SECTOR: THE WORST SECTOR UNDER SENATOR IBIKUNLE AMOSUN. The education sector of Ogun State has never had it so bad. It has witnessed an unprecedented decay that runs contrary to the claims of the over hyped active governor. The governor promised free education for pupils of both primary and post primary schools. He actually started on a footing with the semblance of his vague promises. He gave out textbooks to students in 2011 and till date, the books are going through the cycle of students when they leave each class. One would be shocked to know that these sets of books were published in 2010/11 and reprinted in 2011. The books are obsolete, outdated and archaic. Till date, he only gave out notebooks in 2011 and nothing more. His promised school bags are kept in the store of the ministry of education. They cannot be evenly distributed. Teachers of these schools are already on a week old strike and are still determined to move on with the strike. Schools cannot run for non release of running cost for the last four terms. Science laboratories are dry. No chemicals and other consumables for the laboratories to run practical classes. Teachers savings have been callously squandered and the funds not remitted to designated destinations. Teachers were scrupulously sacked. The posts of headmaster generals and principal generals have been surreptitiously scrapped. Many more structural damages were inflicted on the schools. The students of tertiary institutions are gnashing their teeth on daily basis. They complained that the governor reneged on his promise to reduce their tuition fees. No structural facility was added to any of the schools. To make matters worst, the TASUED, lost accreditation of seven courses to lack of facilities to run the courses. Information has it that the governor is planning to scrap the university hence his decision to starve the school of funds and other necessary requisitions as demanded by the NUC. Gradually, TASUED is going into perpetual extinction. In 2011, Amosun promised to pay bursary to students as soon as he settled down. In 2012, he announced an upward increase of the bursary to up to 100% and 200% increments. 2013, he said the discrepancies in the list from the student affairs departments of schools and the list submitted by the student unions couldnt allow government to pay until the discrepancies are reconciled. Till date, no kobo has been paid. Just yesterday, 23rd instant, The Nigerian Tribune published a paid advert sponsors by the government of Ekiti State. The advert ran through 9 pages listing about 8 thousand sets of students who have been fully paid bursary. The advert indicated that it was the third batch of the payments.
