OHAKIM: THE EXONERATION THAT PAVED WAY FOR CONTINUITY By Evangelist Adiele Wisdom Chigozie It is widely believed that Credibility is the value of a leader’s currency that must always be priced at the currency market of public opinion. Vividly, in the bible it is stated that my people perish due to lack of knowledge. It is no longer new in the ears of the electorates that the vast majority of our politicians desperately desires to be enthroned not necessarily on the candid plat form of credibility but by taking an ugly and disheartening path of assassinating the characters of there opponent. They are most times successful due to the gullibility of the majority of the electorates. Dr ikedi ohakim’s administration will forever remain clean and green on the lips of imolites not because he was a saint but because in the means of stiff political terrain in the state, he still stood firm and achieved a height many thought he couldn’t. Going down history lane, on august 4th, 1957 when say ikedi ohakim was born, it was not clear to his parents chief and Mrs. Maxwell nwachukwu ohakim of okohia , isiala mbano, Imo state of Nigeria that he was a leader, it became evident as the young ikedi grew that indeed he was destined to lead. In most of his books that he has authored, he vividly expressed his childhood experiences, which depicted princely characteristics that embedded an unshaken courage to challenge, correct and transform any malfunctioning institution. It was the recognition of his exploits as a vibrant, dynamic youth that earned him the traditional title by which he is known today: ochinanwata , one who became a king at an early age plus other several others. It has been said that the true test of a man is ascertained in moments of trials and tribulations. Sir ikedi ohakim was heavily struck by a calculated and circulated strategy geared towards striping the faithful imo electorates of what they would enjoy in his continuity agenda. The do or die and power hungry politicians created a stigma between him and his beloved Imolites by promoting the falsehood that he humiliated a priest. Even the most dictatorial and erratic class of leaders have always accorded respect to the anointed, isn’t it funny enough to believe that a man of the prestigious caliber of the religious knighthood would molest a priest? May God help us to play politics of conscience. Being a man of unquestionable integrity, his continuity agenda was punctured on the grounds of falsehood yet he relaxed, searched his conscience and stepped forward to challenge the falsehood to prove that his integrity remains unscathed. Indeed this is a true mark of greatness, a symbol of a lion and the strength of a stallion. This false priest beating episode undoubtedly caused a stoppage to his divine continuity mandate at douglas house but God has never failed in vindicating the innocent. On the 3rd of august ,2014 the charismatic preacher and leader of Enugu – based Adoration ministry, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka finally exonerated Dr ikedi Ohakim of the allegation that he flogged Rev Fr Eustace okorie in 2010 for blocking his convoy. Mbaka in his statement said “some things which when done publicly but happen to be lies should also be publicly recanted. When Ohakim was accused of beating up a priest, the whole roman catholic church was outrage and that was his doom”. He continued that Ohakim swore before the “blessed sacrament” that it was a false allegation but by then, it was too late to undo the political damage done. Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka is a priest that is held of high esteem due to his strong religious integrity both in the catholic and Pentecostal domain. In reaffirming his strong stand on vindicating the innocent, he concluded that “I don’t need one kobo from ohakim to say the truth, my God is the king of kings and our prophetic message is ‘unbribeable’”. As a sign of humility, sir ikedi ohakim realized the fallibility of humans and have ceaselessly apologized to the people of imo state to forgive him and any of his aides that fell short of their expectation. Now that the initial hurdles are cleared, ohakim needs this time to fully embark on the part of progressive era that he envisaged for the state. We ought to help him with the time of accomplishing fully on the dream of reinventing imo state by bringing jobs, the example of which we saw in the 10,000 graduate jobs he created for the unemployed in the state; to keep alive the program of investing, construction of quality roads through qualified and certified contractors, and improving more on human and capital development. Dr ikedi ohakim is a man of perseverance and has demonstrated that he is a leader who shares and hears our concerns. He faced an administration that was embedded with marmount challenges yet it was visible that he achieved a height that brought smiles on the faces of the masses. Even on the charter of equity, he undoubtedly needs to complete his tenure in other to actualize his tabulated and achievable list of projects. Some have argued in the favour of continuity and stability, others prefer change and directions. Still when these are put together, with value, stability and change as key matrix for electing the next governor of imo state, ohakim stands above other candidates in the race. He is an embodiment of continuity, stability and the face of change and new direction. Which ever yardstick been thrown or with a provision of a marking scheme or not, it’s quite evident that ohakim’s administration was outstanding and obviously demands a return to douglas house. By returning Dr ikedi ohakim to office, the imo people will enjoy the continuing enhancement of our existing clean and green initiatives, the effective combating of arm robbery and kidnapping in the state and aggressive improvement of the transport system. It’s no longer a fairy tale or a fictitious nollywood thriller movie that the rural areas of imo state in the current administration is in total shamble due to the high level of dilapidated roads often been flooded, epileptic power supply and poor water supply. This misfit has tremendously increased the rural urban influx thereby increasing crime rate in its highest order. Taking a holistic view of other three top candidates jostling for the PDP flag, you will believe me that ikedi ohakim is outstanding either by his pass leadership record and achievement or by his attitudinal displays towards the things of politics in the state and beyond. Ohakim is never a deceitful ruler, by experience, he has sat on the throne and he knows where the shoe pinches imo people and is poised in putting smiles on the faces of the people. Besides he is calm, calculative, meticulous and altruistic that even in the face of countless litigations and smear campaign against him, he was neither deterred nor derailed. During his administration, the state pulled the highest vote from the eastern region that ensured the return of our amiable president Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. This shows that ikedi ohakim is already working in tandem with the powers at the center, by that reason, the state will never be deprived of their entitlement rather they will be swimming in surplus. Indeed, there is no need deflating the locomotive tires of a winning team when the opportunity for positive continuity is already feasible. Sir Dr ikedi ohakim, the hearts of imolites both home and abroad are truly of ecstasy because the long awaited vindication and exoneration has finally arrived. Ride on, reclaim your mandate and redeem the state from its current abracadabra.
