OK - I finally arrived here in Davao (Philippines) last night and staying at the house my marketing manager has. It is pretty big in comparison to most shacks and shanties. Must have been tired cos I went to bed and fell asleep immediately. Was woken around 5am not just by the sound of the incessant roosters all night, but by the sound of a horse running around the tiled floors. The early morning light was just enough for me to be able to make out this large cockroach wearing steel capped gumboots running about checking out my luggage. I tried to hit it with my shoes, but the cockroach must have watch football, and just kicked my shoes away and ran off under the bed. Later, when I was in the bathroom, this thing came galloping though again checking for whatever, looked at me in disgust and ran back out again. I figure the thing is a house pet now and left it alone.
