OK - one more, just to show how the artistic directors concept can create an entirely different interpretation and experience. Same opera (La Fille Du Regiment), same aria...first one with the wonderful Beverly Sills, circa 1970s (in English, not French). More traditional approach, with the young orphan Marie, raised by a French regiment (supposedly Napoleonic era) has become one of the soldiers, but with a cute little feminine uniform, great hair and makeup (and cooing up to the lead tenor). Second one is recent MET production with Natalie Dessay. Marie has obviously not had the same life/upbringing! Time period also moved forward to WWI.
