OK FOLKS. Please note, this is my attempt to spare us all these annoying and flaccid FB posts that pop up in waves on everyones status updates. Any post you see spreading around on Facebook that requires all your friends to do something to change THEIR settings to protect YOUR privacy settings wont work. What is the logic of that? These posts are like viruses, they dont work and only serve to limit your gullible friends access to you. And they waste everybodys time. There are many websites you can use to verify these hoaxes; Snopes, Urbanlegend. Hoaxbusters... Its easy. When you see a status asking you to go thru all these inane and tedious steps, heres what you do BEFORE copying and reposting. Copy the first few lines of text of the post and google search it along with the words Snopes, or Urban Legend and check to see if its been fact checked as a hoax. Most likely it is. And now youve spared yourself (and all your friends!!!) the embarrassment and waste of time. Same thing applies to Notices of celebrity deaths. Jackie Chan is STILL not dead folks. Still... And frankly if you are worried about keeping stuff private, dont post it online on public sites. A good rule of thumb: Anything in social media that requires that you check off a specific set of instructions and then requires that you pass along the information to your friends so that they might do the exact same thing and pass along to their friends is the 21st Century equivalent of chain mail. Together we can stop this crap. Otherwise theres gonna be a big rash of unfriending going on....
