OK, Gerald Koonce, Two hours after landing in Budapest we had langnos, fried bread (not unlike unsweetened funnel cake) topped with cheese, handmade by Berta; had a scoop of goulash from the stand where another photographer is capturing the spread of food from sausage to duck liver and pork knuckle; and also got something that translates as chimney bread. Its sweetened dough, rolled around a stone and then baked as turns on a spit over charcoal. When done, its sprinkled with your choice of nuts, cocoa, cinnamon or sugar, then wrapped in cellophane. Steam billows out the top as you can see if you look closely. This was all part of a lively open air market where the music included the longest extended jam band version of La Bamba I think Ive ever heard.
