OK, I can understand why some people would be absolutely FURIOUS over the way Merlin – Official ended, and usually when a great series ends in an unconventional way, Im among the first to complain. But Merlins finale somehow worked very well for me, and I cant exactly explain why. Throughout my viewing of the series five seasons, I did have a hope that it would all lead up to the traditional Arthurian world we know. But it didnt, and Im OK with that. From the first episode, I knew this wasnt going to be your grandfathers Arthuriana. The creators of the show took familiar characters and situations from the literary canon and put a unique spin on them. Usually if a movie or a show deviates too much from the source material, I hate it. But in this case, the series was so well done that the differences didnt matter to me at all. What an outstanding show, with an amazing finale. My 2 biggest takeaways: 1) You cant escape destiny; and 2) Magic never dies.
