OK, I have a positive suggestion. Israel is full of the sites of Arab towns and villages and the houses and properties of previous Arab owners. Without getting back into the issue of who did what when to whom, these previous owners are not present and have been prevented from benefitting from their property. In 1952 Israel and Germany signed a Reparations agreement and over the next fourteen years Germany paid 3 billion marks to Israel. The money was invested in the countrys infrastructure, and played an important role in establishing the economy of the new state. So how about Israel was to offer a Reparations Agreement to a new Palestinian state and pay huge reparations to help establish the Palestinan state. The money goes to the state and builds infrastructure, ports, airports, schools, roads, electricity stations etc etc. Wouldnt that be a positive basis on which to build a new Palestinian state, and wouldnt that be a great starting point to acknowledge that wrong was done, wrong that probably can never be directly put right. The state of Israel benefitted hugely from the German reparations, although it was an incredibly contentious decision to accept them. The same would probably be true for Palestine, but it would be a gesture that I think Israel really needs to make.
