OK I have something to say about all this. ALL the media coverage of this dudes bullshit is going to use words like deluded and mentally unstable in an effort to distance his words and actions from any sort of cause and effect relationship with the larger culture. But the fact is there are a TON of messages in the media that tacitly support such a warped world view. That happiness is earned through acquisition of status objects. That women are status objects. That friendships are status objects. That the measure of a man is his ability to achieve status and wealth and domination over others. All of these damaging messages are everywhere, and they effect MANY MANY people in less drastic ways, but with the same corrosive maleficence. We need to change the way we bring up young men in our society if we want episodes like this to stop
