OK, Ill play along too...Im so DC, I was born at Freedmans Hospital. Shopped at Hecht Co. and Woodies. Bought go-go tapes on F Street. Remember 13th Street before stop signs. The best ice cream was at Giffords. Only went to Virginia to get to National Airport (natives shall never call it Reagan). Knew every grove in Rock Creek Park by memory. Every fall we drove by Carroll High School just to read the new message on the fence (one of the all-time best: ALL THE WAY TO HEAVEN). Summer league basketball at the Urbo. Saturdays on the Georgia Avenue circuit: haircut at Macks, then to Madness for gear, then the liquor store at the corner of Rittenhouse b/c they didnt check ID, then to the Black Hole and finish the night at Eddie Leonards. Sunday nights at The Ritz, where it was as fun outside as inside. Long Island iced tea at Takoma Station. Sitting on the wall at Howard and gawking at grown women. Heckling hookers on 14th Street. Going to Chinatown not ever (b/c it didnt really exist). Cruising along Hains Point on the weekends. Church service was set to not conflict with kickoff at RFK. Staying up late on Sundays to watch George Michaels Sports Machine long before it went national.
