OK. Im the least politically minded person in the world but after years of discussion about the subject of Scottish Independence Ive just got to have my say! First of all let me ask a direct question. Why do some Scots want to break away from the United Kingdom? From Great Britain? What are the reasons and how will they benefit Scotland in the long term? Im asking because I really dont understand? What I do understand is that it took hundreds of years of history for us to get to where we are today. I just feel that any of the countries in the UK becoming independent now would be a step in the wrong direction. If it were ever to happen I think it would be a very sad day in our history. Im proud of my Scottish heritage. I was born in Scotland and lived in Scotland for the first 16 years of my life. I left my home to join the British Army. I settled in England. My wife is English. My children are educated in England and we are all proud to call ourselves British. Speaking as a Scotsman living in England since 1981 I can honestly say that Ive never experienced prejudice. I have never been treated in any way that I could describe as disrespectful. I enjoy my life in England as a Scotsman but I call myself a citizen of Britain. Im British. Surely we are all British. Arent we? If Scottish people are separated by independence then they will no longer be British and I personally feel that would be such a terrible shame. As said I truly am proud of my Scottish blood but more so I am proud to have served in the British Army. Im proud to have served the British United Nations. Im proud to have served the British Sovereign. Im really proud to be British. I truly respect that everyone has a right to vote, a right to their own opinion and I really value those opinions and views. What are your views on why this is happening? Help me understand. Thank you.
