OK Jess - youre wish is my command . . . . When I was kid in 1940s Moss Side, this laundry was called the Chin Fong Toy Chinese Laundry and the chippy next door was yet to appear. One of my classmates at Princess Road Primary was Freddy Toy. His family owned the business. I remember him as one of the quieter lads in the class. I often wonder why they changed the name of the laundry. Did they also own the chippy, or was that another Chinese family. In the 1947 school photo, Freddy is the lad in the white shirt just behind the lad holding the board. The darker skinned lad to the right of the board was Nuffin Ferghali (spelt wrong?). He still has relatives in Moss Side I think. Im the kid with the ears, second row down, second from left.
