OK Socal Showdown fans, another USC-UCLA classic is here, this one from 1969. Both USC and UCLA were undefeated (8-0-1) going into this showdown at the Coliseum (the first time since 1952 where both teams met with undefeated records) and not only was the Rose Bowl but also a possible NATIONAL championship was on the line for the winner. The game itself was a defensive game with USCs Wild Bunch running all over the field and sacking UCLA QB Dennis Dummit NINE times. But UCLAs defense (the Quiet Bunch) kept USC star RB Clarence Davis (who lead the nation in rushing) to only 37 rushing yds. The score was UCLA 12 USC 7 with minutes left in the game when the most controversial play in USC-UCLA rivalry unfolded. USC QB Jimmy JOnes threw a pass on a fourth down, into the endzone to WR Sammy Dickerson that UCLA fans and coach Prothro would swear on their grave was UNCATCHABLE but UCLA DE Danny Graham was called for passing interference. That then set up for the game winning TD pass to Dickerson which would again lead to controversy. Many UCLA fans would argue that Dickerson never had control of the ball when he scored the TD, but the play stood and USC wins 14-7 and heads to the Rose Bowl. Fight ON! youtu.be/OEsXiytR_D8
