OK, a square dog...How do we achieve it?? I want to remind you there are a 100 ways to groom a dog, Im just picking one....First, find you points for length; make a conscious effort to do this. Then find his elbows. drop down about 1 1/2, go horizontally to the front of the dogs legs. Cut horizontally between the legs. now you have your point to start, you can clean it up a little later. From that point, start trimming upwards on the bib. Make it a gentle curve, not a big bubble. You head to about 3 below the chin. You do this on the centerline of the bib. You are sculpting the bib,and keep in mind your making the dog look shorter....This picture of Darcy is an excellent example. From the centerline of the bib, you blend also to the sides. Keep referring back to Darcy. We can go to the middle or back here, so lets go to the rear. Find that farthest extention of is pelvis a couple inches behind the set of his tail. I go to the middle of his back, and brush everything backwards. Then like Darcy I trim all the hair, just like you see Darcy.I dont cut anything below the top of the tail. But, I do blend that hair to the sides, as shown. Now people want to take all the hair off on the underbelly. I leave most of it. Just shaped. Again Darcy is an excellent example. The inverted V Remember that 1 1/2 point we set?? Again put a little notch on the center of the belly 1 1/2 down from the elbows...Brush the leg feathers out, and cut them as shown, from the pad to the notch. You may not have feathers there yet, still take that angle; let them grow in... Now the tricky part. On the thighs, drop down about 1/2. Notice the angle on Darcy. Cut to you centerpoint. This is to be done on both sides, and is all the way though. Straight scissors should be used for the underbelly, then smoothout with thinners. Where hair doesnt exist, still cut your angle. The hair will grown and fill in... The ruff around the head is brushed up and forward, and just smoothed off. Leave ALL the ruff over the shoulders. This gives you that height you need..The body hair is lightly trimmed to blend into what ever youve done front and rear....Any questions, or comments???
