OK, folks, Im going to go out on a limb here, but please read everything I have to say before you comment: Our entire community has been on an emotional roller coaster the last few days. The murder of Joe Kucher has outraged every one of us -- and rightly so. Now that the name of his accused killer is public -- and more details are probably forthcoming in an hour or so -- the outrage is only increasing in intensity. Might I suggest that, at least for the next two days, we focus our energies, not on the accused, but on Joe and his family? As I said at Mass this weekend, while our prayers didnt bring Joe physically back to us, they were unbelievably powerful and effective in bringing peace and solace to Hannelore and Mike as they stood by Joes bedside through Friday night and into Saturday morning. They had to make a very difficult decision literally to let Joe go. He died not long after as we were finishing the rosary. Its very hard to describe the experience, but I can ASSURE you that everyones prayers are what carried them through, and will continue to get them through these days. Theres going to be plenty of time to vent our anger at the person responsible for this. Lets spend the next forty-eight hours in mourning and fervent prayer. We all need it -- the Kuchers need it -- our community needs it -- and theres really no better tribute we could make to a genuinely holy man than to pray and pray some more.
