OK folks Week 4. All registrations sheets are in . Thank you. Please remember to let us see your dictionary sheets. Little tips about your dogs in winter- we added sweet tasting antifreeze to watch out for. We had a group of objects in the centre of the room your puppies could walk round and investigate. + Blue ball, and blue hoop. The colour vision of dogs is similar to a person suffering from deuteranopia (red-green colour blindness). Red, yellow and green are perceived as one hue. Blue and purple are perceived as a second hue. Cyan and magenta are perceived as a neutral hue (grey). This means that they cant distinguish green, yellow or red objects based on their colour. However they can still distinguish a red ball from a green one if there is a difference in the perceived brightness of the two or a different shape.. We did a meet and greet with elderly person in a wheelchair and reminded everyone about the new dog control law. We did some conditioning about brooms and mops and vacuum cleaners. https://youtube/watch?v=zlZmJlllP7Y Practice your sits anywhere, add them in, any position . Proofing your sits, see if when you have your hands on your head and you say SIT with no hand signal if your pup will SIT. We practiced in class. You can lay down at home and see if pup mugs you or will do a SIT. We did a demo of patternicity training, getting those SIT and WAITS secure. We will show you how to proof those later too. Play retrieves and tuggies, and checking over those END game or THANK YOU cues and MINE. Then we did some quiet settle time , on their beds, slow strokes, add your own slow deep breathing to this..chill with your dog ! We went over TOUCH and how to get this running, moving, dancing, build it up into a great game. We then went over DOWNs on their beds, remember when you have a good settled down you can lay the lead out to the side, ask for your WAIT CUE and side lean,or side step, go back. Tell your dog what you want -remember they need to see that signal. Then step in front. Go back. Do not smile or laugh or bend down to the puppy yet . That will come in the proofing. Step behind, then walk around your dog. HINT here , dont creep round. Your body language should be upright , confident. At the end of the exercise , stand by your dog , count 1.2.3. bend down , stroke your puppy slowly along his back, make sure your pup is calm, relaxed. You may stand up , clap your hands say OK or what ever release cue you use, lots of praise. We also practiced downs and walking anywhere away, returning and rewarding on the floor in between the dogs paws.
