OK guys. I typed this up this morning to send to the oh-so-helpful church. I tried to keep it snark free, but my snark has a mind of its own and sometimes pops up uninvited. Tell me what you think, and keep in mind that I am trying to NOT alienate my mother-in-law: To the kind and generous Members of Holy Covenant United Methodist Church, My wife and I just wanted you to know how much we appreciate you sending us all the care packages, cards and letters. It is so thoughtful of you to spend your time and money to put these together. We, however, respectfully request that you use the time and money set aside for us on those who truly need assistance. You see, we are already so blessed that we feel it is wrong for us to be on the receiving end of such generosity when there are those closer to you who have so little. We live but five miles from a grocery store and have enough money to buy as much there as we could wish. My wife has already given all of the care packages to the local homeless or to wounded soldiers on post, so we thought perhaps you might be able to just do that from your end instead of wasting all the resources needed to mail the boxes to us. We will still continue to give to the needy here, but we have more than enough to give from our own pockets. If you contact the Center for the Intrepid at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, they can give you information on how you can help wounded military men and women who are undergoing long periods of rehabilitation and medical treatment; sometimes far away from their families. Or, contact your local Veterans Administration, and they can point you in the direction of some veterans in need of help. It pains us greatly to know that you are putting such effort and care into these packages for us, when there are military members and veterans so close to you who need them so much more than we do. Words cannot express how much joy it would bring us to know you are helping those brave men and women on our behalf. Again, we wish to thank you for your continued support and for keeping us in your thoughts, but, please, your thoughts and well-wishes are more than enough to let us know you care. We love you all and are so very grateful for all your time and effort. With utmost regard, SGT and Mrs. **** Tucker
