OK..... insurance education time. My mom had medicare part A & B . She is on 22 prescription meds and her co- pay went up. She had gotten a solicitation from UNITED HEALTH CARE promoting a plan that had 5 dollar co pays for meds. She enrolled and it took affect in January .Allan at Mountain street Pharmacy had problems with her insurance from day one. The day before she was going to the hospital a representative from United called her and wanted no demanded they collect a 150 day co pay of 8 days before she went into the hospital even though we had no clue how long she would be there. She thought United would be a supplemental policy that would pick up after medicare. Well when you enroll that places your Medicare as inactive.... just like you have NONE. and they have you! Its not the money thing that pisses me off.... they manage your care THEY DO. Not YOU.... NOT YOUR DR.....NOT THE HOSPITAL...... they do. Their decisions are not made with your well being in mind. My mom was discharged with a gaping hole in her leg where the staples tore out from swelling. She was discharged aginst her DRs recommendations and placed in a nursing home , its nicer than I thought it would be but still. I asked if she could just drop the insurance, they said no not until open enrollment time...... and it would take affect in January. If your of retirement age THINK TWICE before you fall into the same mess she did.
