OK, maybe I just travel in different circles than this man, but I know a lot of Christians. Actually, at this point in my life I know hundreds and hundreds of Christians. I have interacted with thousands of Christians. True, I havent had deep conversations with all of them or even most of them, but I have experienced much with many Christians. And I have to say, I just dont see this statement (below) as being true AT ALL. I can honestly say that I dont know ONE professing Christian who would see an African American as being subhuman. I dont know one Christian who would actually argue that African Americans arent made in the image of God. Every Christian I know believes that AAs ought to be treated with the utmost dignity along with the rest of humanity. Essentially, this man is accusing a good number of professing Christians of being rank, hateful, racists. I just cannot believe this stuff is getting posted at The Gospel Coalition website. But a good number of professing Christians perceive African Americans the same way as some who make no religious profession at all. I wish this were an anomaly, but seeing us as subhuman goes back hundreds of years. And to be completely honest, I don’t know what to do about that. If they’re not convinced by their own Bibles that we lay common claim to being made in God’s image and therefore deserve to be treated with the utmost dignity along with the rest of humanity, then I suspect this problem will only come out by prayer and fasting—and a whole lot of gracious influence by the Holy Spirit! ~Thabiti Anyabwile
