OK....my Darlin Daughter gave me 13. So here are 13 fun (?) things you may not know about me!! 1) I am a Die-Hard Cub Fan. Reason? I was 8 years old when the Braves left Milwaukee and moved to Atlanta. So my Dad rigged up a transistor radio to my bike so I could listen to the Cubs in the afternoons of Summer and Fall! When the Pilots came to Milw. in 1970, they sucked worse than the Cubs, sooooo.........here I am!! 2) I love Fantasy Football, thanks to Doug McGinness, who got me into his first Fantasy league years ago before Fantasy Football really took off! My Fantasy team is named The Bodysnatchers.....it was even mentioned on one of the Chicago sports-talk radio stations once!! Funeral director/Bodysnatchers....get it? 3) I love to cook.....and sometimes been known to bake! Everything.....and I mean EVERYTHING.....I make usually takes an Italian flair because of the way I use spices and herbs! This from an Irishman!! 4) For those who dont know it.....I fell for my wife, Deb Dampier Whitcomb, when we were seniors in high school! Spring break trip....I saw this beautiful girl and HAD to find out who she was!! We were friends for so many years, and 5 years ago? Here we are, officially, as US!! 5) I absolutely love the classic comedy movies! Caddyshack, Blues Brothers, Uncle Buck, Animal House, Christmas Vacation, Kellys Heroes are among the best movies ever made!! Eat your hearts out Gone With the Wind and Citizen Kane!!! 6) My favorite sports teams? Easy.......Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Badgers, of course!!! 7) Anybody who really knows me knows that I do have a deep love for the City of Chicago! No other city like it in the world! That skyline at night is absolutely unbelievable! If I werent in my business here, I would move to Chicago in a heartbeat! This really comes from my having an uncle, 2 aunts, and some fantastic cousins who lived in the city!! Also, I spent the better part of 5 years in the city or suburbs when I was in school, and then working at a suburban funeral home back in the 80s! 8) As a part of my love of Chicago, then you will know why I LOVE deep-dish pizza, Chicago style hot dogs, and those wonderful Italian Beefs! Vienna Beef is the best!! ;-) 9) I love to golf! Not that good, and always hoping I can lower my handicap, but love it!! It IS true....your worst day of golf is better than your best day at work!! Maybe this year......!! 10) Through golf, I have gotten my Darlin Daughter (Em), my Bride (Deb), and our Big Boy (Matthew Dampier) into golf!! We have some great times out on the course, although not often enough! Those Whitcomb vs. Dampier, or Us Old People vs. The Young Kids are fun days!! 11) I really do have an attitude that Life is too short! Enjoy each day! Love, Laugh, and Live! I see so many people going through the loss of a loved one, and at all ages! We should live each day like it was our last, and make it count! I think Em mentioned this in HER list of fun facts!! 12) I also enjoy acting! I have been able to be in some really fun productions, which started when Emily was in plays at Edison! Craig Bergum tabbed me for a couple of appearances in Oliver and Annie. It was such a blast, I later also had the chance to act in Youre a Good Man, Charlie Brown, where I played Schroeder, and Arsenic and Old Lace, where I played Uncle Teddy! Ive had the honor of acting with great people, including David Bitter, Lynn Reynolds, Kathy Bitter, Pat Hall, among many others! Hope to be able to do it again! PLUS, we raised some great funds for ECHO!! 13) Lastly, I think everybody knows my weird sense of humor! Not your typical funeral director.....which I take GREAT pride in. But, did you all know I would really love to give stand-up comedy a shot! I think I could have a killer set! I might have to give my nephew the writer a call!! Hey, Tom Whitcomb, what dya think??
