OK, now its my turn. 1. You need to go back three generations in my family before you find anyone not born and raised in or near Aberdeen. My maternal grandfathers parents were a couple from Norfolk who settled in Torry. (No, I dont know why.) 2. Andy Gray, the comedy actor, used to live at this address. I remember the evening, when Id been living here about a year, when his aunt in Northern Ireland phoned for him. When I reminded her hed moved out, she decided shed chat to me instead, and actually she was quite entertaining. I remember discussing places Id visited in Ireland. 3. When I worked at the South Bank Polytechnic, in the mid-80s, I was one of the team who developed the first-ever algorithm for decomposing flowgraphs into their prime structures. Intended for static analysis of programme code, it was soon made obsolete by the emergence of object-oriented programming. 4. Fionas and my wedding was the first civil wedding conducted in Scots (the regional form, North-East Doric) in modern times. The Aberdeen registrars refused to do it, so we were married by a registrar based in Ellon. 5. At one stage in my life, I used to speak French daily. I can still bring it out when I need to. 6. I still buy one or two new vinyl LPS a year. My record player got a new phono cartridge, an Ortofon OM20, last year. 7. In 1999 I drove my own car to the North Cape of Europe. Ive never seen such an enormous gathering of camper vans in one place. Afterwards I drove home again.
