OK, so Amanda Knox was found guilty of murder with no physical evidence and a narrative of satanic ritual made by the prosecutor, who himself was under indictment for his abuse of power. When a retrial was ordered due to defense proving that the evidence shown did not match what the prosecutors said it was, she was found not guilty. She was not released because a decision could not be reached, she was determined to be not guilty by a jury, which in Italy includes 2 judges. Since the prosecutor did not like that verdict, he charged her with the same crime again, with the same evidence and a different jury. They found her guilty. It is important to know that the jury always includes two judges and those judges work on a regular basis with the prosecutors. As some have already mentioned, the 6 citizens of the jury often end up being led by the judges. Now comes the appeal, which will likely take at least a year. If that fails, Italy can request her extradition OR her imprisonment here in the U.S. This is where our diplomats have to earn their pay. They certainly dont want to anger another world government, but the extradition treaty is not a guaranteed turn over of any convicted American. American citizens will be surrendered to foreign governments if they could have been convicted for the same offense here in the U.S. and that is where their attempt to jail her will end. Since she was acquitted in her second trial, she could never have been convicted here in the U.S. on that charge so she is not eligible for extradition She will become a prisoner though. She would never be able to travel outside the U.S., with the possible exception of to Canada since their legal system is very similar to ours. If she were to go outside the country, she could be arrested based on this last conviction and returned not to the U.S. but to Italy. Personally, I never believed she had anything to do with the crime. The police and prosecutorial behavior was absurd and had little emphasis on collecting evidence, but leaned towards forming a story of what happened and making it fit what evidence was collected. She deserves to know that Americans support her and will continue to believe in her.
