OK... so an interesting start to the day already! 1st Energy is still reporting over 1,200 in Wirt and 2,000 in Wood without power due to an equipment failure. No word on restoration for those still without. The question though, is if this morning has been a preview of what is to come later today. Cincinnati is currently being impacted by the Derecho storm system that tore through Nebraska and areas of the Mid-West yesterday. Indianapolis is also seeing the remnants. What is currently in Cincy may be on top of us within the next few hours bringing heavy rain and lightning. However, that system looks like it will only be round 1 for the day. Conditions appear perfect this afternoon into this evening for our area to experience another possible Derecho event. While any Derecho/storms we get today/tonight/overnight may bring some severe weather, our temperatures will remain in 70s and 80s, so there will not be anywhere near the fuel in the atmosphere for the Derecho to feed on as there was in 2012 when our temperatures were well over 100. NWS is calling for potentially damaging storms to happen both early this afternoon, and especially overnight tonight. Current models show the most damaging portions of the storm system tracking southernly into KY, yet we still are in the warning area. Here are the current expectations from NWS Storm Prediction Center: 30% LARGE HAIL RISK OH: Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Vinton WV: Jackson, Mason, Roane, Wirt, Wood 15% LARGE HAIL RISK OH: Monroe, Morgan, Noble, Perry, Washington WV: Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Pleasants, Ritchie, Tyler 30% DAMAGING WIND RISK OH: Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Vinton WV: Jackson, Mason, Roane, Wirt, Wood 15% DAMAGING WIND RISK OH: Monroe, Morgan, Noble, Perry, Washington WV: Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Pleasants, Ritchie, Tyler 5% TORNADO RISK OH: Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Vinton WV: Jackson, Mason, Roane, Wirt, Wood 2% TORNADO RISK OH: Monroe, Morgan, Noble, Perry, Washington WV: Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Pleasants, Ritchie, Tyler So... with all that said. Expect a unique weather day. We may see some severe weather early afternoon, then much more tonight/overnight. Please stay alert to changing conditions, and keep a weather eye out. Prepare for potential power outages, high water, and hail possibility. Wirt OES will post additional data as the day progresses. Any Watches or Warnings issued by NWS will be passed along via Nixle Alerts as always.
