OK, the National Weather Service just issued a tornado watch for about 1/2 of MS and most of south LA until 6pm. If I recall correctly, in 2014 a total of 5 people died in tornados WHILE IN THEIR CARS. I have been doing disaster response for over 30 years and I do not remember so many deaths in vehicles. Why so many? What has changed? My personal theory is that so many people no longer listen to local radio stations in their car. If you dont know a tornado is near you, it is possible to drive right into it and never know it. You are not looking around for it and you probably can see it for the trees anyway. So do me and my friends a favor. Avoid being on the road today, and if you have to go somewhere; turn off Sirius, unplug the iPod, eject the CD and turn on the radio. Oh, and you might want to download the MEMA app. msema.org forecast.weather.gov/hazards/?wfo=jan
