OK then, lets not use the name of a particular religion because we do not know the facts yet right....For all we know, he could be a Christian fundamentalist, a Jewish zealot, a Buddhist extremist (yeah theres is such thing believe it or not!), an anti-chocolate militant. I am trying so hard to convince myself that this has nothing to do with religions--inspired cowardice and stupidity (this makes me feel good and proper!) Australia wake-up! ANY religion, I mean A-N-Y who would NOT recognise the supremacy of human rights and rule of law is incompatible with democratic ideals and values--and that is WHY I am not a subscriber of ANY religion. I now challenge the adherents and leaders of any religion that might feel offended by the flurry of comments in relation to this incident to declare, in no uncertain terms, that democratic values and ideals trump ALL doctrinal and dogmatic beliefs! We tell ourselves that we stand for human rights, freedom, democracy, tolerance—and yet we also tell ourselves that we cannot uphold these rights because to prefer one culture over another is racist or xenophobic, even if the culture so preferred is ones own. So a liberal society by definition cannot defend itself but, in the interests of equality (and political correctness) , must apparently accept its own obliteration. ~The World Turned Upside Down
