OK, this is my second try at making this computer (and/or FB) to do something I want. I made a promise to people early today to post some snapshots of some of my Applied Art (What it is called when entered into competitions), in particular, my decorated skulls. Ive been making these since the mid-1950s and have created over a hundred. The tradition of the decorated skull goes back countless years before recorded history in every culture; this is NOT a Native American thing or and African thing - it is the common history of the world. Usually, my designs follow the symbology of Native American tribe of the Great Plains of the last 300 years, but not always. I have made decorated skulls for museum displays of many cultures, back to Neanderthal representations, in the correct styles and colors for those cultures. Several are on display in anthropological exhibits after many years. I have made skulls that have been used in Native American ceremonials and some are in tribal museum collections and displayed in tribal enterprise offices. These three, below are in my possession, right now. The first two are a cattle skull decorated to celebrate my own nuclear family - my wife, son and I. Bold color, Items that represent the three of us and the things that we are interested in; three mountains, western wear, electronics, a hint of military service and a spot referencing numbers (my Trophy Wife is an accountant). The central red glass heart is, of course, our name. This all tells our story and where we are and what we do, The second is a big horn tribute to our love of northern New Mexico and the animals and Puebloan Indian (Zia sun sign from the NM state flag) cultures that are found there. The third and last is a tribute to my fellow veterans, of all services, that served during the Vietnam War. Each service is listed by its usual abbreviation on a cloudy blue background and blood drops flow from the decoration associated with service in that war. The feathers of many colors are meant to represent all peoples that served - by skin color or by the colors of the national flags of countries in which many of us originated. This skull was awarded a prize in the annual Arts and Crafts Competition at the Denver Medical Center some years ago. I still have it, although it was sold and I had a deposit to hold it a number of years ago - and Ive never heard from that client again and cannot locate them. I am planning on offering it for sale again in a national marketplace, soon. I hope that you realize that the bad photos are a result of my eyesight and not the fault of the camera!
