OK, tonight a childhood dream of mine is coming true. I’m playing Rush’s Tom Sawyer on Neil Peart’s Kit from that era. I wish that I was 11 years old again, and I would actually be used to playing a drum kit this big, as my whole approach has changed and a kit this large is really awkward for me now. But, I don’t care. I’m gonna play like I’m 11 years old again. It’s a nice gift to have at Christmas. Because of moving into a new house and also other mitigating circumstances these last few months, I haven’t been able to set up a drum kit to practice anything, much less Tom Sawyer. But, I’m not gonna let that stand in the way of this dream. One thing that this reminds me after all these years is that I’m still in love with the drums, and music of course. But, certainly the drums. If you’re around Nashville tonight, and want to see a bunch of great Nashville drummers live out their childhood dreams, too, come out to the Exit/In. The show starts at 8pm. All the proceeds go to St. Jude’s and WJO School of Music here in Nashville, as our reward for doing this, besides giving back to those in need, is just being able to live this dream.
