OLD GUYS RULE- Congrats to John Ireland and Team Privateer No matter how many times you cross first under the checker flag waiving, the blessing of the race won is received with honor and accomplishment. Years of hard work on car set up and driving skill merges together in a single moment. On his 71 birthday John Ireland won in the #88 Magic Monte, and from all observations, this is just the first for 2013, not the last trip to victory lane. Absolute dedication to going fast in a metric car has had it’s challenges for John Ireland and crew. Six years of dialing in the balanced set up, seven different failed motor combinations, and a plethora of shock/spring attempts have provided the education via hard knocks as to how to make a metric chassis go fast at Sunset Speedway. The narrower G-60 Hoosier tire was the last piece of the puzzle, wider was not better for the metric chassis, it’s all about getting those biscuits to bite into the track. There will always be small adjustments being made to continuously improve the handling, but the foundation for winning is set, and good hunting to every team that will be in chase this 2013 season. What most folks don’t realize is that the 70 something driver is also his own engine builder, and the motor that is huffing the deep toned rumble is making it’s power without race gas. The flat topped Vortec headed home build power plant never turns past 5700 rpm, proves up reliable, and makes a very unique notification to all drivers that are about to be passed by the #88. With a stock pile of 350 blocks and various parts collected to build more of these budget racing combinations, Privateer looks forward to the hobby stock rule enforcement next year. John Ireland already has IMCA Hobby Stock motors in play getting the bugs worked out for 2014. Don’t expect the Magic Monte to be any slower next year. As for any post race ramblings of those who failed to achieve victory, “Shut the H-LL up and RACE!” Wasting time protesting, and living in denial of being bested are all indicators that more work needs to be done in the shop, and less effort protesting. Get over the defeat and get under your car, hard work and zealous attention to detail is the only path to beating the ol’ guy who just won’t act his age. With the help of street stock competitors complaining about old tires, and sponsorship of Ireland & Ireland P.C., John Ireland will get first run on all new tires purchased by Team Privateer for the remainder of 2013. Meaning, the #8 IMCA Modified that is leading Championship Points and three BMods will be getting their tires as take offs from the #88 Magic Monte, not the other way around. No cuts, no sipes, and all freshy fresh fast tires for John Ireland. Get your racing mojo up, and we will see you at the track. Special Thanks to John Ireland’s sponsors: Privateer Racing; Ireland and Ireland P.C.; Transaction Transmission; Dairyfolks Farms; Applebee Aviation; Sweere’s Auto Body; Maslen Machine; RSR; and Sweere’s Trucking. A very big THANK YOU to Team Privateer for making this happen. Individual thanks for helping get the #88 Monte and driver ready to rumble goes out to: Kent Dollarhyde Kathy Ireland Paul Ireland Mike Sweere Joey Tardio Pat Lechner Ron Sweere Oscar Luckman Austin Duyck Cam Ireland Zanna Ireland Rob Ireland Katie Ireland
